Case Closed

This morning Mrs Taaffe came in and we showed her the evidence that leads up to her, which was...

  • She came to school on the day of the crime.
  • She attaches an HDMI Cable to her device regularly because she's having trouble chrome casting.
  • She wears scrunchies.
  • Her fingerprints were everywear in the crime scene.
  • She had a cut in the holidays on her wright hand wrist.
  • She parked out by the office.

Then she confessed that she did it, her story was...

She came into school to drop some things off. She had deactivated the alarms in the office because she haddent indented on coming to Whetu. She was having trouble chrome casting so she decided to pop over to Whetu to borrow the HDMI Cable, but when she was grabbing the HDMI Cable she noticed there was a jar of chocolates and she didn't think anyone would notice if any were gone because it was the holidays. When she went to leave she couldn't open the door so she tryed again and the handle sliped out of her hand, then she cut her hand on the door frame. Then she finally opened the door and ran out. She stoped behind the bush for a while because she didn't know if the door shut behind her, Then carried on to her car out the front of the office.

It happened on the 10/10/20 around 12pm-1pm, in the Whetu Team.

I am really happy we solved the crime!!!

Today I did Letter R. 2 weeks ago I missed letter R so I went back and did it. I think the funniest bit is the rhyming words because I like my pictures.

Letter of the Week 6 T4

The letter this week was E. I really enjoyed doing it and I think that I presented it quite differently. When I was doing my rhyming words I ended up researching about what words are called when they sound the same but are spelt differently. I found out that Homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings. Homophones are a type of homonyms that also sound alike and have different meanings, but have different spellings. Heteronyms are a type of homograph that are also spelled the same and have different meanings, but sound different.

I think my Letter of the Week this week is a Supernova!

Athletics Reflection

Yesterday was our school athletics day and I competed in 60 metres, 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump and shot-put. I made it into the finals for 100 metres so I am happy about that.

My favourite event was the long jump because I find it easy and really fun. On my second jump, I accidentally stepped backwards so they marked from where I stepped but I still did well on my other jumps.

I think my blog challenge this week is a Supernova!

Fantastic Fingerprints

On Tuesday a policewomen came in and her name was Sally. She told us a lot of stuff like how to get tool marks, what you have to wear if you are going into the crime scene, swab for blood, but mostly fingerprints.

Yesterday Fred the Moth went to Mrs Kennedy for the rotation and we did fingerprints. It was really fun because we were getting our own fingerprints. We learnt that there are three types of fingerprints, Loops, Whorls and Arches. Loops are the most common then whorls and arches are the least common. After I got all my fingerprints I had to write on what types of prints they are. I have 2 arches, 7 loops and 1 whorl.

This week in science we are making crystals. Yesterday we made borax crystals and today we are making sugar crystals. When we made borax crystals we got a pipe cleaner and shaped it into a diamond and then tied it to a stick. We made the syrup with borax and water. We checked it this morning and it was formed.

This weeks letter was G. It was quite easy especially the ending with G. I think my Letter of the Week this week is a Supernova!

Workshop Reflection

During Term 2 and 3 the WhetÅ« students have had the opportunity to be involved in a range of different workshops.

The workshop that I have enjoyed participating in the most has been the Bean Growing and Dancing.

The new learning that I have learnt is how to make butter in one science workshops with cream. I think it’s a really good skill to have and I really enjoyed that workshop.

What I have most enjoyed about the workshops are how we can decide what to do instead of having to do all of them and that it is now over three days, not just one.

I am interested in learning more about how to use scratch because I’m not an expert but I want to get better.

Tuesday, 25 August 2020

Whetu Challenge Week 3

This week the Whetu Challenge was to create a cartoon scene. We worked in our learning consolation group. We did the Simpsons and I decided to do Bart. I'm not very good at google drawing so I don't think mine turned out that good but I still tried. My favourite group was the Kermits because everything looked like a cartoon. I think this was a really fun challenge and I would do it again. The hardest part was drawing Bart because the line kept stopping and making a new one so it wouldn't connect. The easiest part was making the background because it was big enough to make all the lines perfect. I think our cartoon scene is a Supernova!

Letter of the Week 3

This weeks letter is S. It was properly the easiest letter so far but it was still really fun. I think my Letter of the Week this is a Supernova.

Whetu Challenge Week 2

Whetu Egg Drop Challenge

For this weeks Whetu Challenge, we had to create something to protect our eggs from cracking when you drop it off the Grandstand.

I worked with Sophie and Candace to create my creation.

We used two balloons, a sock, wool, newspaper, scissors and tape.

I think if we used the bag our design would have been better because our egg only cracked a little bit.

I really enjoyed doing this challenge. My favourite part was dropping the egg off the Grandstand.

The hardest part was making the place that the egg was in because we didn't want it to be too loose that it would fall out but we also didn't want it to tight that it would crack before we dropped it.

The easiest part was dropping the egg of the Grandstand.

I think our Egg Drop Challenge is a Supernova!

Term 2 Reflection

The new learning activity that I have enjoyed the most this term is the Blog Challenges. My favourite one was the interior designing because it’s one of my favourite things to do. I also really enjoy the Math Mysteries because I love working out all the clues and narrowing down the suspects.

Something that has challenged me this term has been nothing really, I don’t find anything too challenging for me.

The Whetu Challenge I enjoyed the most was the jingle because I think it was a really cool idea. Our group did pizza because we all liked pizza and we had a good idea on how to start it.

The opt-in workshop I enjoyed the most was the pom-pom birds. I really enjoyed making them because they turned out amazing and I love making pom poms.

An aim I have for my learning is to achieve everything that is set in a week by the teachers.

Whetu Challenge Week 11

Whetu Challenge Week 11

This week for our Whetu Challenge we created something using egg cartons.

I created a penguin scene for my egg carton craft.

I used an egg carton, paint, sharpies and coloured paper to create my egg carton creation.

Overall my egg carton creation went to plan but when I stuck the beaks on with my orange paper only one stuck down so I ended up just drawing it with orange felt.

I think this Whetu challenge was really fun and I would love to do something like this again.

My favourite part was painting and putting it all together because I liked seeing it all come together.

I think my egg carton craft is a Supernova!

Maths inv Week 11

This weeks inv was How many hats are lost in a school year. I thought about how many students are in the school, how many terms we were hats for and how many people have lost their hat in Fred the Moth, multiplied it by 3, then multiplied it by all the classes.
My estimate was 128.

Blog Challenge Week 11

This weeks blog challenge was Interior Designing our bedrooms or our classroom. I decided to do my bedroom because I thought it would be really fun and it was. This is my favourite blog challenge so far.
I think my bedroom design is a Supernova!

Whetu Challenge Week 10

Whetu Challenge - Paper Planes

Today our challenge was to design an accurate paper plane. We were given a draft piece of paper to trial and a good piece to use once we had tested the accuracy of it.

Before we started I thought this challenge was going to be sort of easy but also a lot of fun.

I decided to use the design on the second page of the slides but when I got half way it got a bit complicated so I just finished in my own way without any instructions.

The hardest part was the hardest part was flying my plane in the competition because my plane kept going down before it got to the runway.

During our competition time I managed to score 2 points because it didn't make it on to the runway it just landed beside 1 point mark twice.

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge

Today for our Whetu Challenge we worked in a group to build a tower out of newspaper, 2 straws and sellotape. We needed to make our tower strong enough to hold a tennis ball and be able to stand alone (not leaning on anything or needing support).

Today I worked with Katelyn and Chyrsler.

At first we had trouble with decideing what design to do.

The best part of our tower was the basket which the tennis ball would sit in, but the base was not successful because we couldn't work out how to make it.

In the end our tower did not succeed but it was still fun to do. I think if we had a little more time it would be a success.

Maths Challenge Week 8

This weeks maths challenge was The Mystery of the Naughty Gnome and I really enjoyed it like I always do. I worked with Katelyn to do my maths challenge. My favourite clue was the last one because I love working out codes and things like that.
Here is my answer.

Catapult Challenge Week 7

Whetu Catapult Challenge

The things that I used to make my catapult were: Eight sticks, five rubber bands and one spoon. In the tutorial they only used four rubber bands but we need one more to back sure it can fling things.

To make my catapult I worked with Shylah-Faye and Katelyn. I think I chose the right people because I work really well with them.

The most challenging part was tying the last rubber band on because we found it was to small then it snapped so we had try again but luckily this time worked because we stretched it first.

Our best results were 65 cm. We used Katelyn's ruler to measure by putting it down twice.

Overall I think that our catapult is a complete success and I really enjoyed working on it.

I think my catapult is a Supernova!
